Symptoms Teething usually starts when your baby is 6 or 7 months old, but could start as early as 2 months and as late as 12 months. The normal teething pattern is four new teeth every four months until your baby gets all of his 20 “baby” teeth by age 2 ½. Symptoms include:
- Drooling
- Chin rash
- Cough
- Chewing on or biting objects
- Low appetite
- Diarrhea
- Low grade fever
- Red gums
- Pulling on ear or rubbing cheek
- Irritability
- Wakefulness
Mistaken For Colds
Colic Causes Your baby is cutting new teeth. Treatment
- Rub your baby’s gums.
- Let your baby chew on a cold washcloth.
- A cool teething ring can sometimes do the trick.
- Let your baby suck or chew on something cold (popsicles).
- Give your baby something cold to drink.
- Some OTC teething pain medications are available, but are temporary relievers.
- Ask your doctor about administering acetaminophen.
